The port of Trani

The port of Trani is the symbolic place of the city and highlights its maritime vocation, it is closely linked to the Adriatic. It was also fundamental for the economic and cultural development of the city: for example, Frederick II took advantage of the fortunate strategic position of the port, managing to enrich the city and allowing its expansion. Nowadays the port is a meeting place where there is a variety of places of all kinds.

The historic center

The historic center of Trani is full of churches, most of them in Romanesque style. Behind the port we find what was once the Jewish area, in fact throughout history the city has hosted a notable settlement of Jewish communities.

An example is St. Anne's Church, which has become a Jewish Museum.

Immerse yourself in the streets of the center and savor the streets of the past!

The Cathedral

Desired by Frederick II, it represents the ostentation of the medieval period under the Swabian dynasty. It was the symbol not only of the splendor of the time but also of the strong Christian spirit, dedicated to the patron saint St. Nicholas the pilgrim. The striking feature is its position: it is located a few steps from the sea, in a place where one would expect to see a lighthouse. Therefore, it was probably intended to represent the religious building in the intentions of those who decided to build it: a lighthouse that would guide mankind towards the port of Christianity.
